Kathleen WilliamsOUTSOURCED: YOUR Medical RecordsFew people ralziee this, but a great deal of the medical transcription is outsourced to India, Pakistan, Philippines. Most of it is outsourced to India. The HIPAA laws that protect your information does not and cannot be applied to non-US workers. This means that YOUR medical information can be harvested and that information, in essence, sold to the highest bidder. Every time you visit the doctor, a clinic, urgent care center, or the hospital, a record is made of that visit. A few doctors still do notes by hand, some institutions and some doctors have jumped on the electronic medical record bandwagon (which still requires notes in your files), but for the most part, your information is transcribed by a person. As a disabled, home-bound US citizen, I am fortunate enough to be able to transcribe medical records from my home office. I am bound by HIPAA laws and would never, ever disclose any information. I do not work in my jammies nor do I make tons of money like some of the advertisements for medical transcription schools tout. Rather, I average for the most part about $4 to $5 an hour on a good day.The bottom has fallen out of the US medical transcription market simply because of all the outsourcing of our medical records to India. Ironically, there are large information/dictation brokers who buy up vast amounts of untranscribed dictation and sell it back to American companies for very low rates, pocketing the difference without having done anything other than reroute your medical information all over the world. So while most of the US medical transcriptionists are barely making minimum wage, Indian companies are taking what should have stayed in the country in the first place and selling it back to us, making vast profits for literally doing nothing more than buying and selling your medical information.I make far less than minimum wage and am very lucky that I can even do that. I am wheelchair bound and housebound, but I shall continue on with this as long as there is money to be made. Making $2 an hour is better than nothing, believe me.

I joined BCD early on, back in April '07. It's been such a faatnstic place to learn about carriers, meet like-minded parents and try out all sorts of different carriers. It has been so beneficial for my babywearing and on top of that, I've met some really awesome fellow babywearers. Some of them online and far away and some here in NZ and I even got to meet 3 of them in real life. They have become real friends! Thanks Palus, for this great group!Esther in NZ

I have just registered my bissneus. This bissneus specializes in residential property maintenance, residential construction and residential masonry. I would like to know approximately how much I will need to put down for liability insurance that would cover me if anything was to go wrong. I have no employee's and no vehicles to add on. I want to only be covered for liability. Thank you very much and I hope to have a better understanding on this matter soon thanks to you!

I'm on vacation and I have a very paunfil tooth abscess. Until I can get treatment with my dentist back home, I would like to go to a doctor or clinic for an antibiotic. Which choice, the clinic or a doctor, are more likely to give me medicine? Additional info: I do have health insurance.Thank you so much for your help in advance. Will pick best answer.I didn't have the abscess at the start of my vacation. It developed a few days later.
